All undergraduate students

What is the aim of this Fair?

HKU’s new undergraduate curriculum provides flexibility for students to design their own combination of disciplinary majors, minors and electives within and outside their home Faculties with guidance from academic advisers. The aim of this Fair is to provide an opportunity for students to explore different major and minor options.

  • Teachers and Administrators from Faculties and the Academic Advising Office
  • Representatives from Student Societies
  • Careers Advisers from CEDARS (Careers & Placement)

What can I get from this Fair?
Get Information:
  • We have invited different Faculties to conduct information briefings on their major / minor options offered to non-home Faculty students. Want to join the talks? Please click here to register.
  • We have prepared factsheets on different major/ minor options for your easy reference.
Seek Advice:
  • Administrators from different Faculties /Academic Advising Office will be there to answer your questions regarding course requirements and relevant regulations and procedures.
  • Representatives from CEDARS (Careers and Placement) will also station there to advise you on the career prospects of particular major/ minor programmes.
Be Connected:
  • Over 15 student societies will join this Fair. You can have a causal chat with your peers. They will be happy to share with you their views and first-hand experience.

What is Academic Advising

Academic advising is a developmental process in which you are empowered to think critically, explore available academic options, and take personal responsibility for goal-setting and decision-making with the guidance of your teachers and academic advisers.

The team at the Academic Advising Office (AAO) consists of seasoned academic advisers and experienced administrators who are ready to help. Service includes:

New Semester: Meeting with your Faculty Academic Adviser

 

 

Dear Student,

Congratulations! You have completed your first semester at HKU and are now embarking on a new semester. To help you make a smooth and successful transition, you are reminded that the University requires all first year students to meet their Faculty Academic Advisers (FAAs) at least once EVERY semester.

The Add/Drop period will end on February 1, 2013 and you are encouraged to contact your FAA should you need any advice on your course selection or have any concerns regarding your studies. Appointment can be made by e-mail and this video will show you how to identify your FAA in SIS: https://aao.hku.hk/video/video-04/

How to Win a Scholarship Workshop

Who is it for?

All undergraduate students, especially First Year students

What is it about?

This workshop will provide information and tips on how to apply for various types of scholarships for undergraduate students. HKU staff will share typical scholarship requirements and practical scholarship application advice. The following topics will also be addressed :

  • what donors’ are looking for in students they support
  • etiquette for scholarship interviews and ceremonies
  • social manner when meeting the donors
  • how to write a good thank you letter

Developing a Study Plan and Setting Academic Goals Workshop

In setting yourself up for success, it helps to have a well thought-out academic plan and specific goals. AAO would like to invite you to attend a workshop to help you to develop your own study plan, details as follows :

Who is it for?

All undergraduate students, especially First Year students

What is it about?

This workshop will provide students with a hands-on method for developing a study plan and setting academic goals. With resources provided, students will create a personalized academic roadmap. Additionally, AAO staff will share practical academic advice and take questions from the audience.

Topics to be addressed include:

  • Review of University’s academic advising system;
  • Learn how to identify key academic policies and degree regulations;
  • Understand the calculation of your GPA;
  • Share effective learning strategies;
  • Find University resources available to assist you;
  • Create a personalize study plan and academic goals.
