The Essentials of Academic Advising @HKU (Sep 2017)

Workshop Highlights

To provide colleagues with the information on the key features of the University Academic Advising System and the latest developments in academic advising at HKU, AAO organized a workshop entitled “The Essentials of Academic Advising @ HKU” on September 27, 2017.

Various practical issues and “must know” information were covered in the workshop, such as student development roadmap, developmental approach to advising, advising timeline, advising SEN students or those under stress and AAO resources, etc. Each participant was also provided with a PC to try out the SIS advising tools. In particular, we were very happy to have Dr. Anthony Tam, a very experienced Academic Adviser from the Faculty of Engineering, coming to us and shared his tips on how to earn students’ trust and be an effective academic adviser. As he reflected, communication is the key. He told us that it always gives him immense joy when he witnesses his advisees overcoming different hurdles and graduate eventually.

The workshop received very encouraging response, with the participation of about 30 teachers and administrators from different Faculties and University units.
