Teachers from different Faculties will give information briefings on various major / minor options.

Careers advisers from CEDARS (Careers & Placement) will give talk on the relationship between career planning and major/ minor selection. They will also station at the Fair to attend to your enquiries.

Senior students from different Faculties will be there. They will be happy to share with you their experience in selecting their major / minor programmes.

There will be factsheets on different major/ minor options for picking up free.

Dear Student,

Pathfinding: Exhibition on Learning Opportunities at HKU

Semester start is always exciting – new courses, new professors, new friends and new opportunities everywhere. To introduce you to the wide variety of learning opportunities available on campus, the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) and the Academic Advising Office (AAO) will jointly organize the Pathfinding Exhibition next week:

Date: September 25-26, 2014 (Thursday and Friday)
Time: 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.
Venue: Haking Wong Covered Podium

You will find a wide spectrum of learning opportunities and student support services outside classroom such as student exchange, service learning, experiential learning, library service, health education, sports programmes, English language support, common core curriculum information, personal development and career planning, campus life and student development, academic advising, general education, internship and many more.

There will also be a lucky draw! Do come and have fun!

HKU’s new undergraduate curriculum provides flexibility for students to design their own combination of disciplinary majors, minors and electives within and outside their home Faculties with guidance from academic advisers. The aim of the Fair was to provide an opportunity for students to explore different major and minor options.

Face to Face Consultation with Faculty Administrators and AAO Academic Advisers

Administrators from different Faculties will be there to answer your questions regarding regulations and procedures.

Information Briefings by AAO, CEDARS (Careers & Placement) and Teachers of Different Faculties

We have invited representatives of AAO and CEDARS (Careers & Placement) as well as teachers from different Faculties to conduct information briefings on how to choose your major/ minor, the relationship between major/ minor options and career prospects and also the major / minor options offered by different Faculties to non-home Faculty students.

Career Advice

The Director of CEDARS (Careers & Placement) will conduct talk on the relationship between major/ minor options and career prospects. There will also be career advisers stationing in the Fair to attend to your enquiries.

Peer Sharing

Students from different major/ minor programmes will join the Fair and share with you their insider’s view and first-hand experience. Further details on their consultation roster will be announced soon, so stay tuned to our website.

What was the aim of the Fair?

HKU’s new undergraduate curriculum provides flexibility for students to design their own combination of disciplinary majors, minors and electives within and outside their home Faculties with guidance from academic advisers. The aim of the Fair was to provide an opportunity for students to explore different major and minor options.

Who did students meet in the Fair?
  • 22 Teachers and more than 12 Administrators across 8 Faculties
  • Representatives from 20 Student Societies
  • Careers Advisers from CEDARS (Careers & Placement)
What did students get from the Fair?
Information on specific major/minor options:

20 sessions of information briefings on major / minor options offered by different Faculties had been held, with the participation of over 200 students.

Advice from Administrators:

Administrators from 7 Faculties were there to answer students’ questions regarding regulations and procedures; representatives from Cedars (Careers and Placement) also stationed on site to advise students on the career prospects of particular major/ minor options.

Peer Advice:

20 student societies had joined the Fair. Participants had a great time in chatting with their peers and learning more about their first-hand experience.
