Undergraduates in all years of study who are interested in learning more about postgraduate studies

What is it about?

This workshop aims at introducing to students the benefits and choices of postgraduate studies available at and beyond HKU. The guest speaker will provide participants with practical learnings so as to assist them in making informed decisions on their selection of programmes and to prepare them for the higher academic goal. Topics include:

  • Benefits of postgraduate studies
  • Choices in postgraduate studies
  • Types of admission tests
  • Timeline and preparation
  • Alternatives to postgraduate studies

AAO and the guest speaker will also take questions from the participants in the Q&A session.

Who will speak?
  • Dr. Josephine Jim, Chair of Visionary Plus Education Services, will come again this year to share her insights with HKU students

This unique and practical workshop focuses on how “ACTION” and “INACTION” taken by students in the first year impact on their overall learning progression and outcome. Through first –hand experience sharing of senior students from different Faculties and group exercises, you will learn to approach your study and make academic decisions wisely with a proactive and positive mindset.

Who is it for?

This workshop is designed for academic and academic-related staff who support and advise students in learning:

  • Colleagues who have been newly appointed to academic advising responsibilities
  • Serving academic advisers who wish to have a quick recap on resources and facilities that can make their job easier and faster
  • New colleagues who want to know the advising and referral system for students in need, whether or not they are formally assigned the role as academic adviser

What is its aim?

The aim of this interactive workshop is to provide you with information on the key features of the University Academic Advising System, advising tips & resources and hands-on experience of the advising tools in SIS.

What will I learn about?

  • Latest enhancement of the University-wide academic advising system and roles of advisers
  • Ways to engage your advisees and tips on conducting advising meetings
  • Tools from the AAO Advising Resource Hub
  • Functions of the SIS Advising System (* Each participant will have a PC to try out the System)
  • Referrals and campus support resources
