Freshmen 101 Workshop
Be a SMART Learner – Work hard Play hard!

Date: September 14, 2017 (Thursday)
Time: 5:30 to 7:00 pm
Venue: MB218 (Convocation Room), Main Building, Main Campus

Who is it for?

Open for all to attend (especially First-Year students)

What is it about?

To win a game you must fully understand the rules! Working hard on your lectures, revisions and assignments does not guarantee a good grade. To ensure that your efforts pay off, you have to understand the aims of university learning and among many other things, assessment rubrics, that is, how you will be assessed. Now comes a great opportunity to learn from Dr. Cecilia Chan, an expert in outcome-based approach to student learning and assessment!

  • Differences between secondary and university education
  • Course learning outcomes, assessment methods and rubics
  • How to cope with academic challenges
  • Expectations of a university student and effective use of effort in attaining your goals

AAO will also explain how to find academic support and useful campus resources.

Who will speak?

  • Dr. Cecilia Chan, Head of Professional Development/Associate Professor, The Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning
  • Ms. Rachel Hong, Acting Head, Academic Advising Office
