Postgraduate Student: To Be or Not to Be?

Who is it for?

Open to all undergraduates (especially senior year students)

What is it about?

In this workshop, students consider and question if postgraduate study is the right next step. Highlights of the workshop include examining the advantages and disadvantages of further studies and exploring the academic transition from the undergraduate to postgraduate level. Current TPG, M Phil and PhD students will be on a panel discussing common issues faced by prospective postgraduate students. Individual questions from workshop participants will be addressed in small groups.

Some of the topics to be addressed include:

  • Why pursue postgraduate studies?
  • How does being a postgraduate student differ from being an undergraduate student?
  • What determines if you are academically ready for postgraduate research?
  • What are important considerations for finding programmes that are a good fit?
  • What can you do now to help transition next into postgraduate study?
    … and any questions that you bring forth.

Who will speak?

  • Ms Rachel Hong, Academic Adviser, Academic Advising Office
  • Current M Phil and PhD students from various Faculties
