  • What are identifiable trends from discontinuation and withdrawal cases?
  • How do you detect academic risks in your advisees?
  • Should you intervene when your advisees receive poor academic results?
  • What alert strategies are being used by faculties to identify academically at-risk students?
  • What advice is available for students balancing residential hall life with academics?
  • What are key issues when advising on enquiries about programme transfer?
  • Why is it important to utilize partnerships on campus?
  • When and in what ways do psychological issues affect academic performance?

Description:

This event will provide an analysis on students recommended for discontinuation or withdrawal of study and concerns in the rise in the number of cases. Discussion will follow on identifying academically at-risk students, the importance of early detection through the academic advising system, and new initiatives impacting the residential experience and academic performance. Experienced colleagues will also share recent cases that involved programme/faculty transfer and special counselling. They will specifically explain how partnering with support units and academic staff helped.

Colleagues are also welcome to share their experiences with academic advising. Light lunch will be provided.
